Memorial Day - 4th Annual Fundraiser

Memorial Day is just around the corner (Monday, May 29th). For those who are not familiar with the holiday, Memorial Day is a US holiday that honors those who lost their lives while defending their country.

For the past 4 years, to honor them, I have made it a tradition to host a community BBQ, participate in a fitness challenge called The Murph Challenge, and raise money for the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

The Murph Challenge is the Official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. It is also one of the primary means of funding for the Foundation on an annual basis. The LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation was started in 2007 by Michael’s parents, Dan and Maureen, and Michael’s brother John. Michael was an avid reader and felt that education was key, in fact his favorite saying was “Education will set you free”. That is why the Murphy Family used their own funds to start the Foundation.

The Foundation awarded 34 scholarships in 2021 with the addition of three new scholarships; one at St. Joseph’s College to a Veteran for undergraduate or graduate study and two new scholarships at Rocky Point High School on Long Island in memory of Marine Sgt Robert A. Pole, who was Killed in Action in Iraq.

The Murph WODIt is important to remember that The Murph Challenge is more than just a workout. It is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and allows us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL), a man who sacrificed everything he had for our freedom. Join us this year as we continue to help keep his legacy alive through The Murph Challenge campaign.

For this year's event, my non-profit Greater Than Zero Percent (GTZP) along with a partner of our Merging Vets and Players will come together and host the Murph Challenge and fundraise together!
