Mission Statement

Preservation Chicago protects and revitalizes Chicago’s irreplaceable architecture, neighborhoods and urban green spaces. Through advocacy, outreach, education and partnership, we influence stakeholders to pursue creative reuse and preservation-sensitive outcomes.

Preservation Chicago is the only nonprofit advocacy organization entirely devoted to creating, nurturing, and protecting healthy, vibrant, diverse, and sustainable communities by leveraging the power of Chicago’s historic built environment. They are committed to strengthening the vibrancy of Chicago’s economy and quality of life by championing Chicago's historic built environment.

The organization was officially founded in 2001, after the founders were defeated in 2000 by the demolition of numerous historic buildings despite their protests. The team at Preservation Chicago work collectively with neighborhood organizations and residents to ensure that Chicago’s historic past will always remain a part of Chicago’s future.
