Youth of Englewood

In Season 2, Episode 5 we hear how LaTanya Johnson - Executive Director of Youth of Englewood is impacting the Englewood community by providing youth programs that range from recreational, educational, mentorship, or entrepreneurship. Youth of Englewood also provides skills training, community events, family support, and even field trips all for free!LaTanya discusses being born and raised near 55th and Marshfield, and considers the program “Me and the kids vs. the world, and we are all in this together!” Youth of Englewood started back in 2013, and in their first year started with 5 kids, and rapidly grew to 35 by year's end. LaTanya mentions that over the last 7 years, their programs have impacted “thousands of kids” and due to capacity they can only manage 50 kids at a time. With such an impact in the Englewood community she has been dubbed the “Mother of Englewood”!Due to Covid, LaTanya also chats about providing over 1,300 “Covid19 Activity Bags” passed out to kids that were stuck in their homes.
